Course Objectives
Following completion of this activity, you will be able to:
  • describe the basic medical use for the opioid fentanyl and how it compares to its opiate counterparts; 

  • discuss the scale at which fentanyl plays a part in illicit, national drug overdoses and deaths compared with other drugs of abuse; 

  • evaluate the reasons for testing and types of assays used for detecting fentanyl, including screening and confirmatory; 

  • evaluate the current challenges and advancements in testing for fentanyl and its analogs; and 

  • describe the recommended precautions for staying safe from fentanyl exposure on the job.
