Course Objectives
Following completion of this activity, you will be able to:
  • describe rat-bite fever (RBF) and identify the bacterial agents responsible; 

  • summarize the clinical features, potential complications, and treatment of RBF; 

  • discuss Streptobacillus moniliformis including microscopic morphology, requirements for isolation, growth characteristics, and methods for identification; 

  • relate the risk factors and steps for the prevention of RBF; and 

  • discuss difficulties in the diagnosis of RBF, noting other infectious diseases with similar clinical features.
