Upon completion of this activity, you will be able to:

  • describe the cytomorphologic features of solitary fibrous tumor; 

  • develop a differential diagnosis for an intrathoracic spindle cell neoplasm; 

  • explore the role of ancillary immunohistochemical and molecular techniques available to distinguish solitary fibrous tumor from diagnostic mimickers; and 

  • gain a practical understanding of classification and grading of solitary fibrous tumors through the perspective of a practicing cytopathologist.
