recognize that plasma cell neoplasms are proliferations of clonal plasma cells and can occur anywhere as solitary, extramedullary lesions without myeloma-defining symptoms;
discuss the difference between multiple myeloma, solitary plasmacytoma of bone, and extramedullary plasmacytoma;
identify the most common anatomic location for solitary plasmacytoma of bone;
differentiate between some of the myeloma-defining clinical criteria;
explain the immunophenotypic features of neoplastic plasma cells; and
describe the histomorphologic differential of a plasma cell–rich infiltrate in the lung.
