DEIBXXEM2406 - CME/CMLE - Informatics Challenges with Providing Inclusive Care for the LGBTQ Patient
Course Description

This session at the 2022 Annual Meeting is presented by Matthew D. Krasowski, MD, PhD from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Krasowski defines key terms relevant to identity and Electronic Health Records. In reference to the EHR entry fields for sexual orientation/gender identity (SOGI), he applies case-based examples of laboratory testing in the gender expansive population with a discussion of gender issues raised. He discussed the implications of transition and hormonal therapies to reference ranges with broad patterns highlighted, the variables, and the complications. Finally, Dr. Krasowski outlines options and considerations for using SOGI fields to serve the LGBTQ patient population.

  • Key terms such as sex assigned at birth, legal sex, gender, and gender expansive 
  • Application to laboratory testing in the gender expansive population
