DMT110-24 - CME/CMLE - Maximizing the Clinical Utility of Rapid Molecular Diagnostics: A Team Effort Led by the Laboratory and Stewardship Team
Course Description
Rapid molecular multiplex panels are being more commonplace in clinical microbiology labs, given their rapid turnaround time, ease of use, and FDA approval. However, these multiplex panels are more expensive compared to routine diagnostic approaches. Additionally, such panels can have up to 50 targets including genetic antimicrobial markers. Utility of rapid diagnostics in certain clinical scenarios are not indicated and can even present as confusion if a broad panel is used. In this education session, the faculty will discuss how these rapid molecular panels have changed the diagnostic landscape and review published recommendations and evidence-based guidelines. The faculty will advise the audience what can be done from a stewardship perspective to improve patient outcomes, ensure quality assured results, and promote good clinical practice.
