DMT111-25 - CME/CMLE - Cracking the Cores: A Contemporary Approach to Renal Mass and Prostate Needle Biopsies
Course Description
Renal and prostate needle biopsies are cornerstone diagnostic tools in urologic pathology, yet they continue to pose interpretive challenges in everyday practice. This 60-minute case-based interactive session is designed specifically for community pathologists, residents, and fellows seeking to refine their diagnostic approach in light of evolving criteria and clinical expectations.

The session will feature two expert Genitourinary speakers who will walk participants through real-world biopsy cases—three to four per speaker—focusing on key diagnostic dilemmas, interpretive pitfalls, and practical takeaways. The first half will focus on renal mass biopsies, with cases illustrating diagnostic challenges in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), including clear cell, papillary, oncocytic/eosinophilic, and other morphologies. Each case will emphasize differential diagnoses, strategic immunohistochemical workups, and concise reporting strategies. The second half will shift to prostate core biopsies, concentrating on the morphological spectrum of Gleason pattern 4, its prognostic and therapeutic implications, and the interpretation of various intraductal proliferations.
Interactive polling, audience participation, and discussion will be integrated throughout to enhance engagement and reinforce key learning points. The session will conclude with a 15-minute Q&A, offering participants an opportunity to address real-world diagnostic challenges encountered in community practice.

This session offers 1.0 CME/CMLE credit.
