Flow cytometry is an essential tool in the evaluation of lymphoproliferative disorders (LPDs) affecting the blood and bone marrow. This session offers a practical, case-based approach to applying flow cytometry for the diagnosis, classification, and monitoring of hematologic malignancies. Attendees will gain a systematic understanding of sample preparation, antibody panel selection, and data analysis strategies tailored to the evaluation of suspected and incidentally found LPDs.
Through interactive discussion, we will review key immunophenotypic patterns characteristic of common disorders, including chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), mantle cell lymphoma, follicular lymphoma, hairy cell leukemia, and T-cell lymphomas. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing aberrant antigen expression, assessing clonality, and integrating flow cytometric findings with morphological and clinical data to achieve accurate diagnoses.
The session will also address challenges encountered in detecting small clonal populations, distinguishing reactive from neoplastic lymphocytes, and troubleshooting common pitfalls in flow cytometry interpretation. Special topics will be highlighted, including the utility of relatively new markers such as TCRB1.
Designed for pathologists, hematopathologists, laboratory professionals, and trainees, this session aims to enhance diagnostic confidence and provide practical tips that can be immediately applied in clinical practice. Attendees will leave equipped with a clear workflow for evaluating lymphoproliferative disorders using flow cytometry, bridging technical expertise with clinical relevance.
This session offers 1.0 CME/CMLE credit.
