DMT127-24 - CME/CMLE - Practical Approach to Liver Mass Lesions
Course Description
Liver mass biopsy interpretation remains a challenging area among pathologists, even for those with fellowship training in GI and liver pathology. New classifications/subtypes of hepatic adenoma, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cholangiocarcinoma have emerged in recent years. Many metastatic lesions closely mimic hepatocellular tumors. Accurate classification and diagnosis influence patient treatment options and prognosis. This education session will address practical approaches to pathologic diagnosis of liver mass lesions, update classifications/subtypes of liver tumors, and optimize ancillary studies, particularly in the setting of limited biopsy material, to arrive at a diagnosis. A case-based format, including benign and malignant hepatocellular and biliary neoplasms, will be used that will include a discussion on morphology, differential diagnoses, update, appropriate ancillary tests, and clinical significance. Interactive Q/A and audience polls will be incorporated in the course to improve the participants understanding and learning retentions.
