DMT133-25 - CME/CMLE - Hans Popper Hepatopathology Society Companion Society Session: The Biopsy Evaluation of the Cirrhotic Liver
Course Description
Although many pathologists are comfortable arriving at the diagnosis of cirrhosis in straightforward cases, they are less familiar with the subtypes of cirrhosis and the staging systems for those disorders. For example, biliary disease and steatohepatitis use different staging systems. The pattern of fibrosis may offer clues as to the type of cirrhosis, but most pathologists are not sufficiently adept at interpreting liver biopsies to understand these subtleties. More importantly, novel subtyping of cirrhosis (the Beijing classification) describes a progressive - indeterminate - regressive pattern in fibrosis, and this has prognostic importance. However, most pathologists are unfamiliar with the P-I-R system of describing liver cirrhosis. This education session will address these gaps and more.

This session offers 1.0 CME/CMLE credit.
