The session, Identification of Blood Parasites, will cover the commonly occurring blood parasites and a few infrequently encountered ones, too. The session will be excellent for those entering the field (e.g., residents and fellows), as well as a reminder for veteran microscopists who would simply like to sharpen their skills. Upon completion of the course attendees should be able to identify the various Plasmodium species, as well as Babesia, Trypanosoma cruzi, Trypanosoma brucei, and will understand the key features needed to identify microfilaria. Rapid detection methods for the detection of Plasmodium will also be addressed.
