Gynecologic tumors comprise of a vast variety of tumors to include epithelial and non-epithelial entities. Recurrent or advanced stage tumors are often encountered on cytology specimens. Accurate diagnosis and classification on limited cytology samples can be challenging. Also, in the current
era of personalized medicine a diagnosis such "metastatic carcinoma of Mullerian origin" may not be sufficient. Often, cytological samples may be the only sample for diagnosis and further management of these cases. It is crucial to know the morphologic spectrum of these tumors and ancillary tests that can be used in their diagnosis and management. This comprehensive course will include a wide spectrum of gynecologic tumors seen in fine needle aspirate or touch prep slides via a case base approach. It will highlight cytomorphologic features, the differential diagnosis and diagnostic work-up of various common and rare gynecologic tumors with illustration of corresponding surgical (histopathology) specimen. Challenges on limited sample, correct interpretation, and reporting of various ancillary tests in the diagnosis and management of these tumors will also be discussed. Questions and active participation will be encouraged throughout this session.
