DMT153-24 - CME/CMLE - Editors' Tips on Publishing in the Scientific Literature
Course Description
Publishing the results of scientific research is an essential component of an academic career, but it can be a daunting process for junior faculty. Although the "Instructions for Authors" provides some guidance for submissions, along with details about formatting, required disclosures, preferred styles, etc., there are other questions that authors may ask about when preparing a manuscript for submission to a scientific journal: What journal should I select? How long will it take for the journal to reach a decision? Should I contact the editor to ask about the status of my manuscript? Are there any things that I can do to maximize the chance of my paper being accepted for publication? In this session, the editors in chief of American Journal of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine discuss the practical aspects of publishing scientific papers from the viewpoint of their journals. They will offer useful advice on how you can avoid certain pitfalls that decrease the chance of your paper being accepted for publication, and describe the things that editors and reviewers look for in manuscripts that often lead to acceptance. The editors will try to answer all of your questions about publishing.
