Pathology laboratories generate large amounts of patient operational data, often housed in legacy laboratory information systems. Data mining analytics is essential for data-driven decision-making (DDDM). DDDM is important because it can support lab operations, resource management, personnel performance, QA, business activities. Effective DDDM can also impact the lab’s value stewardship (e.g. COVID dashboard). For regulatory compliance labs need to collect, document audit data. The application of informatics tools (e.g. data visualization software) is vital for DDDM. This course will review the value and limitations of DDDM and illustrate applications in lab operations, personnel performance QA. In addition, this session will highlight the important role of dashboards informatics tools for DDDM.
