LPR100-25 - CME/CMLE - Coagulation Testing: Case-Based Board Review
Course Description
This educational session is intended for pathology trainees and laboratory professionals. It will provide an overview of current topics and challenges in coagulation testing and result interpretation from the laboratory’s perspective. The session will use a case-based format with time for discussion and board-style questions. Key content areas include the impact of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) on newer coagulation assays, with emphasis on reflex-protocol design. We will also review the 2023 updates to lupus anticoagulant diagnostic criteria and their implications for laboratory testing protocols. In addition, we will present our experience monitoring FVIII levels amid rapidly evolving Hemophilia A treatments, including non-factor therapies.

Beyond clinical testing considerations, operational strategies will be covered, such as centralizing coagulation testing across multi-site healthcare systems to improve efficiency and standardization. The final portion of the session will address pre-analytical variables, particularly the importance of proper specimen transport and handling to preserve sample integrity for accurate coagulation results.

This session offers 1.0 CME/CMLE credit.
