Several consensus guidelines have been released in recent years for the diagnosis and management of common hemostatic disorders, such as antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, thrombophilia, and von Willebrand disorder. During this education session, the faculty will review these consensus guidelines through patient case studies, with a focus on diagnostic studies. The faculty will review regulatory and technical considerations to support guideline testing recommendations, from the combined perspective of a pathology medical director and a technical specialist laboratory professional. The faculty will also discuss current Choosing Wisely recommendations on hemostasis testing, including heparin-induced thrombocytopenia testing, hypercoagulability testing, and anti-platelet and anticoagulant monitoring considerations.
