Course Objectives
Following completion of this activity, you will be able to:
  • explain the importance of donor history questionnaire travel questions to the safety of the blood supply;  

  • summarize donor testing currently being performed and the limitations of donor testing for certain blood-borne pathogens; 

  • outline methods to accurately identify malaria-endemic areas and appropriate follow-up actions; 

  • discuss how reviewing donor cards by a well-trained technologist or supervisor can limit errors made in donor screening, acceptance, and safety; and  

  • describe a donor deferral plan and a process for removing disqualified donations.
