Course Objectives
Following completion of this activity, you will be able to:
  • identify common preanalytic errors that can affect sample integrity; 

  • identify the differences between fixed-angle centrifuges and swing-out (swing-bucket) centrifuges; 

  • explain the fundamental concept of centrifuge speed by revolutions per minute and relative centrifugal force; and 

  • differentiate between a physiologic elevation of potassium and a false elevation of potassium resulting from preanalytic error.
