Course Objectives
Following completion of this activity, you will be able to:

  • discuss the infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus;  

  • differentiate methicillin/oxacillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) from methicillin/oxacillin-susceptible S aureus (MSSA) based on antimicrobial susceptibility profile;  

  • discuss the detection of mecC-mediated resistance in S aureus;  

  • discuss the importance of differentiating MRSA from MSSA for infection prevention in the health care setting.
