Course Objectives
Following completion of this activity, you will be able to:
  • describe how mismatch repair (MMR) protein deficiency leads to microsatellite instability;

  • discuss possible immunohistochemistry patterns seen in MMR deficiency, associated molecular results, and recommended follow-up testing;

  • discuss pitfalls of MMR protein immunohistochemistry;

  • explain the clinical significance of clonal loss of an MMR protein; and

  • compare and contrast somatically acquired and germline MMR protein deficiency.
