Course Objectives
Following completion of this activity, you will be able to:

  • describe the epidemiology and clinical features of influenza viruses; 

  • identify the types of clinical samples that are appropriate for influenza testing; 

  • describe various laboratory methods that are available for detecting influenza; and 

  • discuss recommendations on handling and processing of specimens suspected of containing highly pathogenic avian influenza.
