Course Objectives
Following completion of this activity, you will be able to
  • describe the morphologic characteristics of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) cells in peripheral blood and bone marrow aspirate smear; 

  • list the typical clinical features and complications associated with APL; 

  • know the cytochemical, immunophenotypic and cytogenetic characteristics of APL; 

  • understand the diagnostic criteria of APL; and 

  • discuss the prognosis and treatment options.
