Course Objectives
Following completion of this activity, you will be able to
  • recommend to clinicians the appropriate clinical microbiology work-up for infectious keratitis; 

  • identify the risk factors for Acanthamoeba keratitis and its common modes of transmission; 

  • explain the reasoning behind the unique laboratory techniques used in the diagnosis of Acanthamoeba; and 

  • describe the morphologic characteristics of Acanthamoeba species in both cyst and trophozoite forms.
