Course Objectives
Following completion of this activity, you will be able to
  • differentiate the principles of fluorometric, spectrophotometric, and real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based DNA quantitation;

  • identify the strengths and weaknesses of fluorometric, spectrophotometric, and real-time PCR-based approaches for clinical laboratory workflows;

  • apply quality control (QC) cutoffs for purity, concentration, and amplifiability in DNA analysis;

  • interpret real-world discrepancies in DNA measurement across laboratories; and

  • select appropriate quantitation and QC methods for molecular testing.
