Course Objectives
Following completion of this activity, you will be able to:
  • explain the role of light microscopy, immunofluorescence, and electron microscopy in the evaluation of renal biopsy; 

  • discuss the importance of examining the kidney biopsy under a dissecting microscope to evaluate adequacy; 

  • describe different etiologic processes and pathophysiologic mechanisms leading to allograft dysfunction in a transplant kidney; 

  • discuss the importance of knowing the clinical indication for the biopsy when evaluating adequacy of kidney biopsy specimens; and 

  • describe conditions that predominantly affect the medulla.
