Course Objectives
Following completion of this activity, you will be able to:
  • summarize the role of light microscopy, immunofluorescence, and electron microscopy in the evaluation of renal biopsy;

  • discuss the role of additional histochemical and immunohistochemical stains in the interpretation of kidney biopsy;

  • explain the importance of correlating findings of light microscopy, immunofluorescence, and electron microscopy to avoid diagnostic pitfalls.

  • recognize possible signs of hidden epitopes when evaluating immunofluorescence findings; and

  • discuss the technique and limitations of paraffin immunofluorescence.
