Course Objectives
Following completion of this activity, you will be able to:
  • explain the conceptual difference between correlation and causation in histologic assessment and interpretation; 

  • describe how statistically significant correlations between histologic features and clinical or prognostic variables may be misinterpreted as causal relationships; 

  • apply critical appraisal principles to avoid causal overinterpretation when evaluating histologic staging, grading, or prognostic literature; and 

  • recognize the consequences of confusing correlation with causation in histologic interpretation.
