Course Objectives
Following completion of this activity, you will be able to:
  • discuss challenges in performing phlebotomy procedures on patients who have received kidney transplants; 

  • identify proper specimen collection when drawing blood from a venous catheter or an arteriovenous fistula; 

  • describe posttransplant anemia; 

  • discuss how laboratory tests can be affected by hemolysis or sample dilution during phlebotomy; 

  • explain, in order, which sites are best for blood draws; and 

  • identify draw sites that require physician approval for use.
