Course Objectives
Following completion of this activity, you will be able to:
  • Review the classification, grading, staging and reporting of endometrial carcinomas based on the recently published comprehensive recommendations of the International Society of Gynecological Pathologists.   

  • Review the morphologic, immunohistochemical and molecular hallmarks of common uterine mesenchymal neoplasms and understand a practical algorithmic approach in the differential diagnosis and diagnostic workup of these tumors.  

  • Review the diagnostic features and common pitfalls in the assessment of non-invasive and invasive epithelial tumors, fibroepithelial lesions and inflammatory lesions of the breast.  

  • Review the cytomorphologic features and reporting of fine needle aspiration specimens of common and rare breast lesions (case-based illustrations with corresponding surgical excision specimens).  

  • Discuss up-to-date diagnostic criteria for lesions of the thyroid, salivary glands, sinonasal cavity, and mucosal linings of the upper aerodigestive tract, in the context of relevant recurrent and actionable molecular alterations in head and neck neoplasms. 

  • Review routine and challenging areas encountered by surgical pathologists during intraoperative consultations.   

  • Discuss current challenges to grading and reporting of prostate cancer.  

  • Recognize morphologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular features for the classification of renal tumors.  

  • Review diagnostic criteria and recommendations for the workup of lesions of the urinary tract.  

  • Discuss the features that allow separation of benign from malignant mesothelial proliferations 

  • Explain current issues in the diagnosis of lung cancer, including handling of post-neoadjuvant therapy cancer specimens and new molecular and PD-L1 testing guidelines 

  • Discuss the most common challenging diagnostic cases received by lung pathology expert consultation services. 

  • Review routine and challenging areas encountered by surgical pathologists during intraoperative consultations.
